Information and Outline below:
The Executive Leadership
Development System
This program is designed for independent
professionals who want to deepen their knowledge of how to surface
and propose more efficient leadership development solutions to clients. Much of the
time, the client doesn't know the cause of the problems nor the way
to arrive at the most efficient solution--even though they have
identified leadership problems.
In fact, much of the time, the more the
client knows the greater chance that the real problem is isolated in
their system. In order to become more proficient at
identifying the root cause issues in complex adaptive systems, whether they
be one person or thousands is to understand Evolutionary Systems
Development (ESD) in complex adaptive systems.
In order to use this system
effectively for any client system, you must understand ESD. ESD has its foundation in the twin sisters of
personal and organizational system development and is informed
through Spiral Dynamics Integral or SDi. This discipline is
highly regarded as being a micro/macro tool of evolutionary systems
development and has been adapted to undergird the development of a
leadership engine in the Executive Leadership Development System.
ELDS is a standalone system. It can be
used to inform and enhance any and all internal, external, financial
or developmental perspectives in business systems.
It is a 13 week program designed to provide
significant personal and organizational transformation when applied
over time in personal, business and network domains.
It is organized with the EI Theory of
Performance informed by leadership styles, organizational
alignment, the leadership pipeline and the
leadership development profile. This may seem like too much to
try to synthesize in one model, however without a clear
understanding of the evolutionary waves taking place in this ocean
of leadership complexity, one can't navigate the waters of change
successfully.
This advanced program will be available
beginning in July 2002. There is no prerequisite for this
program, but I recommend you purchase the assessment supplement in
order to directly correlate the material to your own leadership
journey.
This program contains 13 modules held over
teleconference calls in so many weeks for 1 hour and 45 minutes for
21 hours of training. Programs begin the first week of each of
the following months:
- July 8, 2002

Executive
Leadership Development System Outline
- Module 1:
Emotional Competence Values Inventory
Learning Objectives:
 |
Identify the 18
competencies of effective leaders from the aspect of all
levels |
 |
Illustrate how change is
likely to be most efficient and reinforcing |
 |
How to quickly stage a
leadership development agenda using this information |
In this module we'll cover a NEW approach to
understanding emotional competence based on value systems and how
to use it quickly to address internal, external, individual and
collective concerns efficiently and effectively. You'll also
learn why this program is a "Trojan Horse Virus" and how that virus
works to develop a leadership engine that performs efficiently..
- Module 2:
Leadership Styles Inventory
Learning Objectives:
 |
The six leadership
styles |
 |
How to identify the
style hierarchy and link it with development issues |
 |
The specific steps to
practice developing complementary styles |
In this module you'll learn your leadership
style profile and what it means to your own reality and level.
Understanding this reality is key to designing a leadership approach that is
efficient in the short run and effective over time.
- Module 3:
Leadership Development Profile
Learning Objectives:
 |
Identify your level of
espoused development |
 |
Engage in a process of
linking espoused developmental level to level in use |
 |
Bridging the gaps
between what is and what is required and your aspiration and
your current being. |
In this module we'll review the leadership
development profile and how it can be used to identify blind spots
in leadership development agendas.
- Module 4: Spiral
Dynamics I
Learning Objectives:
 |
Overview of the spiral |
 |
Review each level of the
spiral |
 |
Distinguish components
of each level |
In this module you'll learn how to see the
spiral in yourself and others, what it means and how it can be used
to locate blind spots.
- Module 5: Spiral
Dynamics II
Learning Objectives:
 |
Relate the spiral to
leadership development profile |
 |
Understanding how the
spiral is all quadrant: internal, external, individual and
collective |
 |
Overlaying the spiral
onto emotional intelligence and leadership development |
In this module you'll learn how to see
multiple perspectives of leadership development as a way to navigate
through complex waters of personal, business and network
performance, change and transformation required by leadership
development either vertically or horizontally to build future
leadership and bench strength over time. The key concept of "meshworks"
will be discussed.
- Module 6:
Organizational Climate
Learning Objectives:
 |
Six factors of
organizational climate |
 |
How climate is affected
by style and how climate dictates a significant portion of
economic results |
 |
How to affect climate
using an all quadrant approach to leadership development |
In this module we'll cover the
organizational climate survey, how it determines results on six
factors of climate and how the factors of climate affect economic
results. We will integrate collective climate to individual
opportunity through internal and external means.
- Module 7:
Alignment Management System
Learning Objectives:
 |
The Alignment Management
System |
 |
Why aligning an
organization is the most efficient use of energy in all
quadrants |
 |
How alignment leverages
leadership development |
In this module you'll learn how and why to
use alignment to capture and use the energy required for change and
leadership development. Most organizations can't afford to
purchase energy or pay for leadership development, therefore you
have to help them capture the energy and costs within the
organization.
- Module 8:
Leadership Pipelines & Complexity
Learning Objectives:
 |
The criteria for each
level of leadership complexity |
 |
How time perspective,
leadership development and levels of leadership passage all
dictate the leadership inventory in an organization |
 |
How to use the pipeline
to develop bench strength on the leadership team |
In this module we'll review the leadership
pipeline as a guide to identifying the collective leadership
inventory in an organization and why managing that inventory is as
critical to success as managing product and service inventory.
We'll show you how to contrast what is with what is required in
order to transcend and anticipate leadership complexity.
- Module 9:
Performance Leadership Mechanics
Learning Objectives:
 |
Why performance is at
the root of all leadership success |
 |
How to create a simple
performance system |
 |
How to use the spiral to
design appropriate performance expectations in all quadrants
and at all levels. |
In this module you'll learn how to use a
bulletproof performance design system to improve leadership
performance at any level
- Module 10:
Oncken Freedom Scale and RAA
Learning Objectives:

of the OFS and why it is critical to leadership development
and performance management. |
 |
Understanding the
difference in RAA [Responsibility, Accountability & Authority]
at different levels of the spiral and in the pipeline |
 |
Use RAA as a way to gain
power as an external system designer and coach |
In this module you'll learn how to use RAA
as a way to set up a system of development that has its own system
of checks and balances, that over time, models the OFS philosophy
and a performance management system.
- Module 11:
Primal Leadership
Learning Objectives:
 |
Resonant Leadership |
 |
How to use all the other
components of the ELDS to create resonant leadership
|
 |
Why the need for every
leader to have a self-directed learning agenda is paramount to
leadership development in complex times. |
In this module we'll cover the key
components of PRIMAL LEADERSHIP and why they provide the lynch pins
for the ELDS.
- Module 12:
Crafting a leadership development agenda
Learning Objectives:
 |
Using 5 discontinuities,
craft a self-directed learning agenda using SFDCS. |
 |
Gain context in using
the prior information in prior modules to cross-validate the
critical path in SFDCS plans. |
 |
Understand how to help
others craft plans that leverage the critical path in all
quadrants. |
In this module you'll learn how to use what
you've learned to craft a self-directed learning agenda that appeals
to all quadrants and all levels.
- Module 13:
Weaving a fabric of leadership development through strengths -- A
Reality Check!
Learning Objectives:
 |
Identify your level of
espoused development |
 |
Engage in a process of
linking espoused developmental level to level in use |
 |
Bridging the gaps
between what is and what is required |
In this module we'll review the components
of leadership
development and how it can be used to identify blind spots
in leadership development agendas. We'll discuss why
sometimes, for the sake of the company, organization or community,
you must "prime" the leadership engine!
